### Tragic Accident in Nuevo León: 12 Dead and 4 Injured in Vehicle Rollover
A severe accident in Nuevo León claimed the lives of 12 individuals and left four others injured. The tragic incident occurred on March 23, 2025, when a van overturned and caught fire near kilometer 14 on the road to Cola de Caballo in Santiago, Nuevo León.
The vehicle was carrying 16 members of a family traveling from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. Eleven people lost their lives at the scene as the van plunged 100 meters into a ravine and was engulfed in flames. The accident happened shortly after midday when the driver reportedly lost control due to a possible brake failure, according to local media.
Emergency services promptly arrived at the scene, transporting the injured to several hospitals. Unfortunately, among the injured was a small child of two years who did not survive. Erik Cavazos, the director of Civil Protection in Nuevo León, explained that the harsh terrain and strong winds contributed to the rapid spread of the van’s fire, which subsequently led to a forest fire.
Efforts were made to control the fire, including water drops from a helicopter. The forest fire consumed about 7 hectares of dry grass and vegetation. Meanwhile, another occupant of the van remains unaccounted for, with search operations continuing.
