**Netflix to Adapt “Mal de Amores”**
Netflix, in collaboration with the production company Filmadora, is set to bring the acclaimed novel “Mal de amores” by Ángeles Mastretta to the screen. The series, rooted in the revolutionary era, follows the story of Emilia Sauri, portrayed by Renata Vaca. Emilia is a woman who defies societal limitations in pursuit of her convictions while torn between two lovers: Daniel Cuenca, a revolutionary adventurer played by Juan Pablo Fuentes, and Doctor Antonio Zavalza, portrayed by Iván Amozurrutia, who seeks peace amidst civil unrest.
The adaptation will also feature performances from Humberto Zurita as Doctor Cuenca, Miguel Rodarte as Diego Sauri, and Diana Bovio as his wife, Josefa Veytia. The cast further includes Cassandra Ciangherotti as Milagros Veytia and Juan Pablo Medina playing Rivadeneira. Though a release date has yet to be announced, this project adds to the burgeoning trend of literary adaptations in the streaming industry. Filming commenced in early December 2024 across Puebla, Mexico City, and San Luis Potosí, with Catalina Aguilar Mastretta, the daughter of the original author, serving as director, producer, and screenwriter.
