## Morena to Undergo “Transition”

Mario Delgado Carrillo, the national president of Morena, provided details on Tuesday regarding the upcoming changes in the party’s leadership. The search for a new leader will commence on September 22nd as part of their National Congress.
“We have been working within the National Executive Committee, alongside the President of the National Council, Governor Alfonso Durazo, to finalize the call for the Congress. We have drafted the call, and ideally, the National Council will convene a major National Congress on September 22nd, just a week before the new government takes office, to elect the new leadership that will serve for three years until October 2027,” Mario Delgado explained.
The party aims to hasten the selection process to identify the best candidates to lead the movement. Both Delgado Carrillo and Secretary-General Citlalli Hernández Mora will step down from their roles on September 31st to join Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s new administration. Delgado will head the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP), while Hernández will lead the newly established Secretariat of Women.
“A significant portion of the National Executive Committee will be renewed because many members were elected as deputies, and others, like Citlalli and myself, were invited to the government,” added Mario Delgado during a press conference held by Mexico’s president-elect.
Furthermore, Delgado emphasized the importance of leaving behind a well-organized, strong leadership for the party to continue growing. “We are on the path of renewal. This process will be very structured, resulting in robust and well-supported leadership by the members, which is the best legacy we can leave – a leadership with more tools and opportunities for the party and its movement to keep growing,” he said.
Additionally, following Claudia Sheinbaum’s recommendations, the party will review and update its statutes to align with Mexico’s rapidly evolving political landscape since 2022.
“President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum provided clear guidance on reviewing our foundational documents. The political reality of our country has changed quickly and positively. Although our last statute reform was in 2022, much has happened since then that should be reflected in these documents,” Delgado stated.
