Mario Martín Delgado Carrillo, President of Morena’s National Executive Committee, announced, “The Morena parliamentary group has been established and, by unanimous consensus, the members have decided to designate Ricardo Monreal Ávila as their coordinator. Ricardo Monreal Ávila was born on September 19, 1960, in Fresnillo, Zacatecas. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the Autonomous University of Zacatecas and has a Master’s and Doctorate in Constitutional and Administrative Law from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he also teaches postgraduate studies.
Monreal began his political career in 1985. Over the years, he has held various positions, including a deputy and senator in the federal legislature, governor of Zacatecas, and chief of the Cuauhtémoc delegation in Mexico City. He served as a senator and chaired the Senate’s Political Coordination Board (JUCOPO) from September 2018 until June 2023, when he took a leave of absence to pursue a presidential bid.
