### Grupo de Danza Minerva Tapia Shines in Mexico City
After a 29-year absence from Mexico City, the Tijuana-based contemporary dance company, Grupo de Danza Minerva Tapia, is set to present a unique border-themed program at the Guillermina Bravo Dance Theater. This performance is part of the “Northern Contemporary Dance Season,” running from August 22 to August 25.
The group, directed and choreographed by Minerva Tapia, includes dancers Alejandra Ramírez, Adrián Villeda, Salma Ríos, and Dayra Meraz. They will perform three distinct pieces: “Aura,” “Cuerpitos Fronterizos,” and “Padres.”
A highlight of the event is the piece “Cuerpitos Fronterizos,” created in 2009, which explores the human body in four contemporary experiences from the Tijuana-San Diego border. According to Minerva Tapia, the piece demonstrates the body as a means of transportation for drugs, a focus of continuous concern among women undergoing cosmetic surgeries, an objectified form, and a site of mistreatment.
Another notable piece is “Aura” (2013), inspired by Carlos Fuentes’ novel of the same name. This work connects the duality in the protagonist’s life with the cultural duality of the Tijuana-San Diego region. Lastly, “Padres” (2009) is part of the choreography “Juanito/Saint of the Migrants,” and is based on the legend of Juan Soldado, focusing on the parents of a murdered girl named Olga Camacho.
Performances are scheduled as follows:
– Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 8:00 PM
– Friday, August 23, 2024, at 8:00 PM
– Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 7:00 PM
– Sunday, August 25, 2024, at 6:00 PM
With a duration of approximately 55 minutes, the show is recommended for audiences aged 12 and up. Ticket prices are set at 80 pesos, with discounts available for students, teachers, and INAPAM beneficiaries.
