Mexicali Valley Security Boosted

State and federal forces secure southern Mexicali Valley after attack on state agents. National Guard to increase presence in Baja California amid rising crime concerns. Residents demand stronger security measures.

### State and Federal Forces Take Charge of Security in Southern Mexicali Valley

In response to a recent attack on state agents, the southern area of the Mexicali Valley is now under the security control of the State Citizen Security Force (FESC) and the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena), according to Baja California Governor, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda.

“The State Citizen Security Force, supported by Sedena, will take control of the southern Mexicali Valley. This measure is part of our coordinated strategy with the state of Sonora,” said Governor Ávila Olmeda.

Last week, two FESC agents were ambushed and injured while on duty in the Mexicali Valley. This incident prompted the reassignment of municipal police officers to the Control and Confidence Center (C3) to undergo re-examinations after failing to respond to the emergency call.

“This incident recalls what happened in Tijuana a few years ago. It was discussed at the Security Table, and this decision is a response to the recent violent acts against agents in Mexicali,” added the governor.

In July, the governments of Baja California and Sonora implemented a coordinated security strategy to work together in San Luis Río Colorado, where a unified command structure is already in place.

Governor Ávila Olmeda emphasized that the current focus remains on Mexicali, and there’s no immediate plan to extend state and federal control to other municipalities. However, this decision could change depending on future evaluations by the Security Table.
