For a maximum period of five days, the Secretary of Public Security, the National Guard, and the Army will completely take over security in the southern region of the Mexicali Valley. During this period, 165 municipal police officers will undergo control and confidence examinations.

With weapons secured and units under control, the Mexicali Municipal Police have been disarmed, and a comprehensive assessment of personnel at all levels will be conducted. In a joint press conference, Alfredo Álvarez, Secretary General of Government; Leopoldo Tizoc Aguilar Durán, Secretary of Public Security; María Elena Andrade, Prosecutor; and Mayor Norma Alicia Bustamante Martínez, announced that measures had been taken since Monday, September 9, to temporarily transfer municipal control to the state authorities.

Aguilar Durán explained that this action is a response to multiple incidents since July, which showcased increased operations by a criminal group in the area. He emphasized, “The objective is clear: to remove violence generators and enhance peace within the communities of the Mexicali Valley. Each security entity will provide personnel to ensure the safety of Valley residents.”
