Mexicali runners Daniel Valdez and Marla Valtierra have etched their names in history by emerging victorious at the Baja California Marathon. In its 58th edition, this marathon marks the first time both male and female categories have been won by athletes from Mexicali. The event, organized by the INDE under the leadership of Laura Marmolejo Toscano, challenges runners with a grueling 42.195-kilometer course.

Daniel Valdez clinched his second victory at Mexico’s oldest marathon, showcasing impressive stamina by staying at the forefront throughout the race. Valdez engaged in an intense contest with Emmanuel Reyes from the State of Mexico but ultimately crossed the finish line first with a time of 2:17.40.

For Marla Valtierra, the race held special significance as she claimed her first victory at the Baja California Marathon. She outran Mary Akor, a celebrated Nigerian runner who had previously secured nine wins at this event. Valtierra finished with a time of 2:38.59.

Both Valdez and Valtierra were rewarded with a cash prize of 75,000 pesos for securing the top spots, and they were also recognized as the best Baja Californians in their respective categories.
