Mexicali Security Forces Deployed

Security beefed up in Mexicali’s Southern Valley post-attack. State and federal forces take control. Municipal police re-evaluated. Probes into police conduct ongoing amid joint state efforts for safety.

### State and Federal Forces Oversee Security in the Southern Valley of Mexicali

In response to a recent attack on state agents, state and federal forces have taken charge of security in the Southern Valley of Mexicali, according to Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda.

Last week, two agents from the Fuerza Estatal de Seguridad Ciudadana (FESC) were ambushed and injured while on duty in the Valle de Mexicali. This incident triggered the deployment of the FESC and reinforcements from the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (Sedena) to control the area. “This is part of the coordinated strategy we are conducting alongside the state of Sonora,” Ávila Olmeda said.

### Additional Security Measures

Due to the recent violence, municipal police officers from the affected area were sent back to the Control and Confidence Center (C3) for re-evaluation after failing to respond to the emergency call during the ambush.

Governor Ávila Olmeda emphasized that the events in Mexicali are similar to previous incidents in Tijuana and were discussed in the Security Table meetings. In July, Baja California and Sonora agreed to a coordinated security strategy to address violence in San Luis Río Colorado, establishing a unified command in the region.

“This is a very unique situation in this specific area of Mexicali, arising from previous events and culminating in the recent ambush,” the governor stated.

Although there are no immediate plans to extend state and federal control to other municipalities, Ávila Olmeda didn’t rule out the possibility for the future, depending on security needs.
