### SSC Assumes Control of Municipal Police in the Valle de Mexicali; 165 Officers Sent for Evaluation

For a maximum period of five days, the Secretariat of Public Security, the National Guard, and the Army will take complete control of security in the southern part of the Valle de Mexicali. During this time, 165 local police officers will be sent to undergo control and trust evaluations.

With weapons secured and units under control, the Municipal Police of Mexicali have been disarmed, and a thorough evaluation of the personnel will be conducted at all levels.

During a joint press conference, Alfredo Álvarez, General Secretary of Government; Leopoldo Tizoc Aguilar Durán, Secretary of Public Security; Prosecutor María Elena Andrade, and Mayor Norma Alicia Bustamante Martínez announced actions taken since Monday, September 9, to temporarily transfer municipal control to the State.

Aguilar Durán explained that the decision is a response to multiple incidents since July, which indicated an increase in operations by a criminal group in the area.

“Our goal is clear: to remove the generators of violence from the streets and to strengthen peace in the communities of the Valle de Mexicali. Each security organization will contribute its elements to ensure the safety of residents in the Valle,” stated the official, adding that while the officers are not under arrest, the investigation will reach its ultimate conclusions.

When questioned about the absence of Director Pedro Ariel Mendivil, Mayor Bustamante Martínez noted that he is currently on vacation in New York.
