**Three Young Individuals Detained for Illegal Fireworks Sale in Mexicali**
Three female individuals, including two minors and a 20-year-old, were apprehended in Mexicali for illegally selling fireworks on the street. The arrest took place on the evening of Thursday, December 19, at around 7:30 PM. Municipal police officers, who were conducting an environmental protection operation, spotted the women peddling pyrotechnics at the intersection of Lázaro Cárdenas Boulevard and Ninth Street, located in the eastern part of Baja California’s capital.
The detained individuals were taken to the nearest police station where they were identified as Ana Cristina “N,” age 20, along with minors Beatriz, 15, and Regina, 14. Among their possessions, officers found ten bags filled with various fireworks, 42 firework games, 3,121 pesos in cash, and 7 dollars. Due to these findings, the young women were placed under the custody of the Judge Calificador to proceed with the necessary legal actions.
Rubén Darío Osuna, head of Mexicali’s fire department, reported that since launching the “Safe December” operation, authorities have confiscated over 40 kilos of pyrotechnic materials. These items are currently being securely stored at the central fire station and will be turned over to the National Defense Secretariat after January 6, 2025.
