In a routine inspection at the Otay Mesa commercial port of entry in California, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents discovered methamphetamine valued at over $3.2 million. The drugs were concealed in the flooring of a semi-trailer. The operation took place on October 3, 2024, as the driver, a 40-year-old man with a valid border crossing card, attempted to enter the United States from Mexico with an empty trailer.
The inspection began when agents detected irregularities in the trailer’s flooring, thanks to non-intrusive detection technology. A CBP canine unit further alerted the officers to the presence of narcotics, leading to a physical inspection. This resulted in the discovery of 265 packages of methamphetamine, weighing a total of 2,686 pounds.
