### Mayrín Hernández: World Weightlifting Champion
Bajacalifornian weightlifter, Mayrín Vanessa Hernández Lizárraga, continues to expand her legacy by securing the world championship title in the snatch category for the 81-kilogram division at the World Championship in León, Spain. She also earned a bronze medal in the clean and jerk and a silver medal in the overall total.
Hernández entered the European competition as one of the top contenders, having previously won two golds and one silver in Guadalajara 2023. This most recent victory marks her fourth consecutive world championship where she has secured at least one gold medal. Under the guidance of coach José Manuel Zayas, Hernández started the snatch event with a lift of 96 kilograms, followed by 101 kilograms, and concluded with 104 kilograms, securing the gold medal for Mexico. The silver medal in the snatch went to Iran’s Yekta Jamali, who also lifted 104 kilograms, while Turkmenistan’s Anamjan Rustamova claimed bronze with a lift of 103 kilograms but failed her third attempt at 105 kilograms, along with Egypt’s Shams Abdelazim.
In the clean and jerk event, Hernández shared the podium with Emma Poghosyan and American Katelyn Witte who claimed silver with a lift of 129 kilograms.
Adding to Hernández’s success, the Mexican squad has already won a bronze medal through Campeche’s Adolfo Tun Dzib, with five more athletes yet to compete, aiming to further increase Mexico’s medal tally.
