**Mayor Brown Bids Farewell with Star Wars Overture; Dedicates Final Address to Her Father**
In a dramatic nod to George Lucas’ universe, Mayor Araceli Brown Figueredo concluded her tenure as the first Morena mayor of Playas de Rosarito with the overture of Star Wars, composed by John Williams in 1977. Brown, accompanied by her daughters Isis Serrano Brown and Arely Brown, who currently heads the local DIF, entered the Municipal House to the iconic strains, as performed by a young ensemble from the Tijuana Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Upon being asked if she received permission from Disney to use the piece, Brown candidly responded, “No, I didn’t ask for permission—my style.” Her entrance, which was delayed by 45 minutes, was followed by a video highlighting the achievements of her five-year administration under the Morena party.
The outgoing mayor kicked off her speech by thanking former governor Jaime Bonilla Valdez, who had encouraged her candidacy back in 2019. “This administration is dedicated to my father, who always fought for his ideals. Thanks to my mother for giving me life and teaching me the value of perseverance. My teachers saw the political animal in me and nurtured it. A special thanks to my moral leader, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador,” said Brown.
Brown expressed heartfelt gratitude to her father and President López Obrador throughout her speech. She recalled the significant milestones achieved during her administration, emphasizing improved safety and prosperity in Rosarito. “We’ve transformed Rosarito into one of the safest and most harmonious municipalities in Baja California, stepping out from the list of Mexico’s most violent cities to one of the most peaceful,” she declared.
Looking ahead, Brown, who has been elected as a federal deputy, pledged to continue advocating for Rosarito in Congress. She highlighted the ongoing and upcoming federal projects, which include a noteworthy investment of 193 million pesos for 2024.
