Luis Márquez, the talented left-handed pitcher, is set to rejoin the Toros de Tijuana. This move comes after a permanent trade with El Águila de Veracruz, in which pitcher Samuel Zazueta was exchanged.

Márquez, originally from Huatabampo, Sonora, will be embarking on his second stint with the border team. He first showcased his skills with the Toros in 2023, where he made a significant impact as part of the bullpen. That season, he recorded five wins and no losses, boasting an impressive ERA of 1.90 over 23 and one-third innings spread across 27 relief appearances. His WHIP (Walks plus Hits per Inning Pitched) was a stellar 0.89, with opposing batters hitting just .179 against him. Over the course of the season, Márquez struck out 21 batters while issuing only six walks. He was initially with the Toros on a loan agreement in 2023 before returning to Veracruz for the subsequent season.

Márquez began his career in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) in 2021 with Veracruz. He has appeared in 77 games in the league, achieving recognition as Rookie of the Year in 2022 after finishing with a 9-1 record and a 2.38 ERA in 27 appearances. In addition to his LMB accomplishments, Márquez has competed in the Mexican Pacific League (LMP) for three seasons with the Naranjeros de Hermosillo, and he participated in the Caribbean Series in 2024.

At just 26 years old, Márquez is positioned to be a key reliever for the Toros de Tijuana in the upcoming 2025 LMB season. He joins Tomás Telis as one of the first reinforcements for the team this season.
