“The Tijuana Cultural Center deeply mourns the passing of the esteemed Tijuana photographer Mario Castillo,” announced the federal agency under Mexico’s Culture Secretariat. The Culture Secretariat of Baja California also expressed condolences, highlighting Castillo’s long-standing contributions to capturing the essence of various cultural figures across local, national, and international stages.
Mario Castillo’s work has been displayed in numerous cities across Mexico and the United States, as well as internationally in Rome, Beijing, and Havana. His notable exhibitions include “Ethnicities of Baja California” (1997), “Lights of Creation” (2001), “Altars of Light” (2004), “Sick Angels” (2009), and “Dust to Dust” (2013).
His lens has immortalized renowned cultural icons such as the French mime Marcel Marceau, Mexican painter Raúl Anguiano, Cuban musician Leo Brouwer, and Mexican filmmaker Juan Carlos Rulfo, among others.
