### “Marea Rosa” Calls for March Supporting Democracy and Opposing Authoritarianism
Over 200 non-governmental organizations that form the “Marea Rosa” have announced a march in favor of democracy and against authoritarianism, scheduled for September 8, 2024. The purpose of this demonstration is to urge opposition lawmakers to vote in support of democratic principles and against authoritarian tendencies. The march will commence at the Angel of Independence in Mexico City and proceed to the Senate of the Republic at 11:00 AM.
Among the issues raised by the organizers is the prevention of judiciary politicization through the election of judges, and the safeguarding of autonomous bodies such as the National Electoral Institute (INE), the Institute of Transparency, Access to Information, and Data Protection (INAI), and various economic and regulatory commissions.
The organization also called on opposition lawmakers to avoid the elimination of proportional representation in the legislative chambers and opposed the transfer of the National Guard (GN) to the Defense Ministry (SEDENA), as well as the elimination of mandatory preventive detention.
Claudio Xavier González Guajardo, an entrepreneur and activist who is one of the event’s organizers, emphasized the importance of the march through his social media, stating, “Our freedoms are threatened. Let’s defend them.”
