Maclovio Rojas PEMEX Dispute

Tensions rise in Maclovio Rojas as residents seek government’s response on land regularization. Future protests loom, aiming for international attention to push for resolutions.

### “Our Aim Was Not to Block the PEMEX Plant,” Says Maclovio Rojas Spokesperson

The residents of Maclovio Rojas did not intend to block the entrance to the PEMEX supply plant again last weekend, asserted Cassandra Hernández, spokesperson and representative of the protestors. According to Hernández, they found out through social media that elements of the National Guard and the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) had set up a checkpoint near the supply plant to prevent another blockade.

“Our goal was not to block the PEMEX plant. What we wanted to highlight is that, unfortunately, the government, instead of negotiating and fulfilling its agreements, chose to waste resources and time by deploying the National Guard and the army to the PEMEX facilities,” Hernández explained.

Earlier in May, inhabitants of Maclovio Rojas blocked the entrance to the supply plant, causing a fuel shortage in various municipalities of the state. Hernández reiterated that the recent blockade was not their intention, but due to the lack of agreements and attention from federal and state authorities, they were forced to consider another protest with even greater impacts.

“We recently stated that this new mobilization will have a larger impact. This is what we want; it’s the only way for the government to address and act on this issue. The PEMEX protest had state-level repercussions, but this new demonstration aims to generate an international impact,” she added. However, Hernández did not provide further details about the location or date of the next protest.

Amid frustration over unmet governmental promises, residents have made it clear that they are willing to escalate their efforts. The blockade of the PEMEX supply plant earlier this year, which led to significant fuel shortages, was a clear signal of their determination. Now, the community is preparing to amplify their actions, potentially drawing international attention.
