Lawyers Support Tijuana Strike

Tijuana lawyers stand in solidarity with judicial workers’ strike, despite disruptions, emphasizing the importance of united support against impacts as they brace for upcoming judicial reforms’ effects.

**Lawyers Back Judicial Workers’ Strike in Tijuana**

Tijuana – The lawyers’ community has expressed strong support for the ongoing strike by federal judicial workers, despite the challenges it presents to the legal system and the general public. This solidarity comes as federal workers have initiated a labor strike affecting the resolution of various legal matters, including commercial, labor, criminal, and constitutional cases.

Alexander Bazán Gómez Llanos, the president of the Bar Association of Tijuana, noted that although the strike has caused significant delays in court proceedings, more than 80% of the association members believe that maintaining the cessation of work is crucial. He compared the current situation to the disruptions experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the importance of standing together during this period.

“It is necessary to support against any kind of impact, whether to clients, citizens, or us, the legal practitioners and operators. Respecting the democratic state is crucial, as failing to continue this struggle would cause irreversible harm. It’s better to endure the process now and unite in this act of pressure, along with the unconstitutionality actions being reviewed by the Supreme Court,” he stated.

Gómez Llanos mentioned that after October 17th, the association would reassess its position, as some lawyers are expressing discontent with the federal justice paralysis, which affects their personal finances. Some are beginning to consider continuing their legal battle without halting work.

While support remains for the strike currently, there’s an acknowledgment of the financial strain on legal professionals, who rely heavily on court access. The reassessment post-October 17 will determine if new strategies or continuations of the strike are the best course of action.

**Judicial Changes Draw Attention from the Legal Community**

In addition to the strike, there is growing anticipation concerning impending judicial reforms. The legal industry, along with federal workers, remains on edge about how these changes could alter the landscape of justice administration.

The reforms aim to address longstanding systemic issues, intending to enhance efficiency and transparency within the judiciary. However, details remain sparse, leaving many to speculate about the potential impacts, the timeline for implementation, and how these changes could affect current and future legal processes.

Some in the legal community express optimism, hoping that reforms could mean a more streamlined judicial process. Others remain cautious, wary of the changes disrupting their work further. As discussions continue, the industry watches closely to see how these reforms will take shape and what concrete impacts they will have on legal operations and accessibility to justice.
