Alejandro Martínez Noguez, a reporter known as “Hijo del Llanero Solititito,” was tragically shot and killed on the afternoon of August 4, 2024, near the municipality of Celaya, Guanajuato.

According to Celaya’s Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Martínez Noguez was attacked on the federal highway 45 Villagrán-Celaya. Assailants in a vehicle fired long-range weapons at the journalist. During the incident, two bodyguards accompanying Martínez Noguez, part of a journalist protection protocol he had been under for about two years following a previous attack, were also injured.

Local reports indicate that before the fatal attack, Martínez Noguez had visited the community of Mexicanos in the municipality of Villagrán for a coverage assignment and had conducted a live broadcast on Facebook.

The SSPC of Celaya launched a joint operation with state and federal authorities to locate those responsible, but as of now, no arrests have been made.
