### Journalist Adriano Bachega Fatally Shot in Nuevo León
Adriano Bachega Olvera, a 53-year-old journalist originally from Argentina and a naturalized Mexican citizen, was tragically killed on December 3, 2024. Bachega, the editor-in-chief of the news portal Diario Digital Online, was gunned down as he drove his personal vehicle along Lázaro Cárdenas Avenue, on the border of Monterrey and San Pedro Garza García in Nuevo León.
According to local reports, witnesses described how armed men approached Bachega’s car before opening fire. This incident marks the third murder of a journalist under the current administration. Bachega was driving a gray BYD vehicle, carrying the plates 45S-224 from Nuevo León. After the attack, his car collided with a central barrier, causing significant traffic disruptions.
Authorities were quick to respond, with Fuerza Civil agents, Police units, and National Guard personnel arriving to secure the crime scene. Investigators found nearly ten shell casings from a 9-millimeter handgun and an assault rifle. Medical responders sadly confirmed that Bachega had died at the scene. The Attorney General’s Office of Nuevo León has initiated an investigation into the murder.
Bachega had been with Diario Digital Online since June 2023, working for a platform that prides itself on providing thorough news coverage across Nuevo León, Mexico, and beyond. In addition to his editorial work, Bachega was a respected business consultant, conference speaker, and founder of his own blog “Directo al Grano.”

In related news, another journalist, Victoria García Álvarez, was attacked on December 1, 2024. García, a reporter for Marmat Noticias, was shot at while driving through Montemorelos. Although she suffered a gunshot wound to her arm, García managed to reach an investigative office where she received medical assistance.
