**Mourn the Passing of Special Prosecutor José Agustín Ortiz**

The family of José Agustín Ortiz Pinchetti has announced with deep sorrow the passing of the specialized prosecutor in electoral crimes. He had been serving in this role since March 11, 2019.

“It is with profound grief and sadness that we share the passing of our beloved José Agustín Pinchetti, his wife, children, and family,” the family announced on the evening of August 3, 2024. José Agustín Ortiz Pinchetti was also a former academic at the Ibero-American University.

Born on May 13, 1937, in Mexico City, Ortiz Pinchetti was appointed as the head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Electoral Crimes on February 8, 2019, by the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero.

Throughout his public service career, Ortiz Pinchetti served as a citizen counselor in the General Council of the Federal Electoral Institute in 1994. He was also the Secretary of Government for the Federal District from 2000 to 2003 and held the position of federal deputy in the LIX Legislature (2003-2006).

Ortiz Pinchetti held a master’s degree in Economic Law from UIA and authored books such as “The Coming Democracy” and “Private Reflections and Public Testimonies.”

In light of his passing, the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, described him as an “authentic democrat.” “We walked together for a long time and will remain friends and companions forever. My condolences to Loretta, Mariana, and the entire family,” the president shared on his social media account on August 4.

Supreme Court Justice Loretta Ortiz Ahlf, the widow of the late specialized prosecutor, reflected on his life through social media, saying, “He was a loving man of steadfast convictions and persistent struggles. Despite the immeasurable pain caused by his departure, I treasure the joy of having walked by his side.”
