Jorge Gilberto Ramos Ávalos, the esteemed Mexican-American journalist and author, has announced his departure from Univision after an illustrious 40-year career with the network. At 66 years old, Ramos disclosed on September 9, 2024, that he would be leaving Univision due to a failure to reach a new contractual agreement.

Univision released a statement explaining that Ramos would continue to anchor “Noticiero Univisión” and “Al Punto” until the conclusion of the U.S. elections in November 2024. He also holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Miami and received an honorary Doctorate in Literature from the University of Richmond in 2007.

Starting his career in local radio stations and Televisa in Mexico, Ramos faced censorship issues with the network which led him to join Univision in 1986. Over the years, he became the face of “Noticiero Univision” and “Al Punto,” gaining recognition for his interviews and news analysis. In 2013, he joined Fusion’s English-language network with his show “Show Me Something.”

Renowned for his influence, Ramos was named among the “25 Most Influential Hispanics in the United States” and featured in TIME magazine’s 2015 list of the “100 Most Influential People in the World.” Throughout his career, he has authored 13 books, with nine translated into English.
