### Landslide in Jilotzingo, Mexico, Claims Infant’s Life and Traps Nine

A landslide that occurred in the community of San Luis Ayucan, within the municipality of Jilotzingo, in the State of Mexico, late Friday night has resulted in the tragic death of a three-month-old baby and has left nine people trapped under debris. Authorities, including local, state, and federal teams alongside the Army and National Guard, have been working around the clock to rescue those affected.

As of Saturday morning, three people have been rescued after 11 hours of intense efforts. “A landslide engulfed eight homes, leaving 12 people beneath the rubble. Tragically, a three-month-old has died,” confirmed the State of Mexico’s Civil Protection.

The coordinated rescue efforts, involving the Navy, the Army, the National Guard, the Red Cross, municipal police, state authorities, canine units, and State Civil Protection teams, have successfully extracted three individuals who were then taken to Lomas Verdes Hospital for medical attention. “The operations continue with support from all levels of government, and further updates will follow,” they noted.

Earlier, Jilotzingo Mayor Ana Teresa Casas González shared on social media that rescues had been made amidst continuous work. The landslide was triggered by the overflow of a nearby river due to heavy rains: “After over 11 hours of operations, we confirm the rescue of three people from the landslide in Las Palmas, San Luis Ayucan.”

The Jilotzingo municipal government stated, “Following 11 hours of intense maneuvers, a family was rescued from the debris thanks to the relentless effort of rescue teams from all levels of government and specialized personnel.” The rescued family was immediately transported to a hospital for medical evaluation.

Transportation disruptions continue with the Naucalpan-Ixtlahuaca road affected, though the Espíritu Santo-Chiluca Boulevard remains operational.

The Governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez, has requested ongoing alertness from the General Coordination of Civil Protection and Risk Management to support local authorities handling the rain-induced damages. “Please report any rainfall-related problems to 911,” she urged on social media.

Furthermore, Civil Protection of Edomex detailed: “Immediate care was provided by local authorities, Civil Protection, Risk Management, and emergency crews. We will keep you informed.” Mayor Casas González has also called for donations to aid those impacted, asking for supplies like bottled water, rice, beans, and cooking oil to be brought to the command center in San Luis Ayucan.

“We’ve set up a command center in San Luis Ayucan and worked throughout the night due to multiple landslides. State and federal personnel are safeguarding the area. It’s a risky zone, and we request everyone to stay away from the San Luis Ayucan center as evaluations are ongoing,” the Mayor said.

“We appreciate everyone’s willingness to help but must follow established protocols and guidance. We will continue to work diligently,” Casas González concluded.
