Witnesses reported that the lawmaker was driving his bright green Suzuki Jimny, which is valued at around 400,000 pesos, when he seemingly lost control of the vehicle while on a phone call.

Fortunately, neither Jaime Cantón nor his passenger, identified as Karen Pahola, suffered significant injuries. Paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross attended to both at the scene. Following the incident, the legislator took to social media to assure the public of their well-being and mentioned they were involved in a collision but were unharmed.

“Thank you to everyone asking about us; we’re doing very well. We were hit this morning, but thankfully, everyone is okay,” he shared.

Mexicali’s Mayor, Norma Bustamante, recently acknowledged a rise in traffic incidents within the city. She announced that operations led by the Municipal Public Security Directorate would be initiated to tackle this growing issue. “Accidents often relate to alcohol consumption and neglecting traffic signals.
