INE Election Prep Unfolds

INE gears up for the election of judges, magistrates, and ministers on June 1, 2025. Budget determination pending; public awareness campaign crucial for this new electoral process.

### INE Prepares for Election of Judges, Magistrates, and Ministers; Budget Yet to Be Defined

Tijuana – The National Electoral Institute (INE) is currently in the planning stages for the upcoming election of judges, magistrates, and ministers, which is set to take place on June 1, 2025. Liliana Díaz de León Zapata, the executive vocal of INE’s local board in Baja California, noted that political parties will not be involved in this process.

Díaz de León Zapata explained that following the installation of the General Council on September 23, as part of the launch of this extraordinary electoral process, local and district councils will soon be established.

“We must promote this initiative to the public and educate them about the reform so they are aware that they can vote for these positions, which are now elected by popular vote,” she added.

Since the reform was published on September 15, several pending issues remain for the electoral authority, which must define its work route in the coming months. “There are aspects that need to be settled through guidelines or secondary laws. The decree sets a period for issuing these secondary laws, but in the absence of such laws, the General Council is authorized to issue the necessary guidelines to determine the process,” added Díaz de León Zapata.

The executive clarified that political parties have been excluded from this process and have thus withdrawn from the General Council meetings.

“The quality of the election will adhere to the standards of certainty, impartiality, and legality that characterize the INE and its staff. We will conduct it with the same professionalism with which we have always operated,” she stated.

Finally, Díaz de León Zapata pointed out that the budget required by the INE for the next year is still under analysis, as the necessary amount for the electoral process is yet to be determined.

“We need to engage in significant public education. People must be informed that this electoral process is coming since many are unaware that the INE is organizing it,” she concluded.

### Secondary Article: Significant Developments in Judicial System Reform Expected

Baja California – As part of efforts to align with the recent judicial reform, the local Judicial Branch of Baja California (PJBC) is looking to improve control and operations. The reform aims to create a more transparent and efficient judicial system, and these changes are expected to be implemented within the next six months.

According to officials, the harmonization with the judicial reform will introduce new mechanisms and standards to enhance the functionality of the PJBC. This alignment process will likely include minimal variations from the federal judicial reform guidelines.

Furthermore, local authorities have announced additional initiatives, such as the upcoming suspension of classes across various educational institutions on specific dates, advancing infrastructure projects like the new San Antonio de los Buenos plant, and safety measures for upcoming events. These measures reflect a broader commitment to enhancing public services and governance within the region.
