IMSS Clinic Protest Update

“Protesters at IMSS Clinic 20 demand accountability for medical mishandlings. Retirees express frustration over delays in care, pushing for improvements in patient treatment and services.”

**Protesters Gather at IMSS Clinic to Highlight Medical Mishandlings**

Around 20 retirees and policyholders organized a demonstration outside the IMSS Clinic 20, voicing their concerns over poor treatment and negligence during their medical care. This protest took place on Wednesday, November 13.

Margarita de León Cota, a retiree from Clinic 20 for over 23 years, expressed frustration over the perpetual delay in addressing their grievances. “We just want to know when our issues will be resolved, instead of getting the usual excuses. We’ve returned as we promised,” she stated, recalling a similar protest she took part in on October 3rd.

Another protester, Erlinda Viramontes de Apodaca, shared her husband’s ordeal in June and early July 2024. During his hospital stay, a diagnostic test was only performed on the fourth day, revealing an inflamed gallbladder with pus, which required emergency surgery. She labeled the delay as negligent, as it compromised her husband’s care.

Addressing these issues, administrative correspondence promised functional elevators by January 2025, with plans for operating room renovations and the evaluation of a new hospital site in the East Zone.

Habacuc Rosas recounted his unpleasant experience when admitted for a kidney issue. Despite dietary restrictions forbidding bread and bananas, these were regularly provided until he complained, describing it as torturous to be malnourished during illness.

Similarly, Candelaria Díaz talked about her husband’s year-long wait for knee surgery. Despite securing blood donors as requested, the procedure was ultimately postponed once more. Díaz urged fellow citizens to share their stories, encouraging greater empathy and accountability in healthcare service, emphasizing that health is a fundamental right.

**Recent IMSS Challenges Highlighted in Tijuana**

Reports from Tijuana have brought to light several incidents indicating ongoing challenges within the IMSS medical facilities. Patients and their families continue to face delays in critical diagnostics, prolonged waiting periods for surgeries, and seemingly contradictory dietary practices during hospital stays. These issues underscore the need for ongoing improvements in patient care and management to ensure that individuals receive timely and appropriate medical attention. As these concerns grow, it’s imperative for the involved authorities to address them swiftly, prioritizing the well-being of their patients.
