# IEEBC Awaits Regional Court Decision on San Felipe Election

The Institute Estatal Electoral de Baja California (IEEBC) is currently awaiting a ruling from the Guadalajara Regional Chamber of the Federal Judiciary regarding the election situation in San Felipe. According to Luis Alberto Hernández Morales, the President Councilor of the IEEBC, the decision is expected by September 30th, with the potential for an extraordinary election depending on the chamber’s conclusions.

Hernández Morales explained that the election matter has not yet been included in the regional chamber’s agenda but remains confident that a resolution will be made by the stipulated deadline. As the Regional Chamber is dealing with numerous appeals from Region 1, there is an undeniable workload. However, Hernández is optimistic about the chamber meeting its timelines.

Should the appeal process lead to the decision that an extraordinary election is necessary, the law dictates that within 40 days following the issuance of said resolution, the Congress of Baja California must issue a corresponding call for the election. The IEEBC is prepared to organize the process if the local tribunal’s decision is confirmed, despite the possibility that the Regional Chamber might overturn it.

“We have already conducted prior analyses to prepare for the organization of the process, should the local tribunal’s determination be confirmed. It is not uncommon for the Regional Chamber to overturn local tribunal decisions. We will wait for the judges’ resolution and take administrative actions as needed,” concluded Hernández Morales.
