### Suspected Mastermind Behind Wife’s Feminicide Tries to Mislead State Prosecutor’s Office for 40 Days

The State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) has taken Manuel “N” into custody, accusing him of orchestrating the murder of his wife, nurse Gabriela Janette Gutiérrez Aguilar. The tragic incident took place on July 12, when Gabriela was attacked at point-blank range upon arriving home in the Mariano Matamoros neighborhood of Tijuana. The preliminary hearing is set for Friday, August 30.

For 40 days, Manuel “N” attempted to mislead FGE investigations. Initial interviews with family members brought to light marital conflicts, arousing suspicion among investigators. The suspicious behavior of the widow, particularly his unusual focus on the victim’s belongings and insistence on seeking “justice,” drew further scrutiny.

“The widow’s behavior, combined with information from close relatives, raised our suspicions and prompted a thorough investigation of his actions,” stated Central Prosecutor Rafael Orozco.

On the day of the murder, Gabriela returned to her home on Batalla de Oaxaca Street. As she walked toward her house, an armed, hooded individual ambushed her from a sedan. Her 17-year-old son witnessed the horrifying event, making subsequent interactions with him extremely challenging, according to Manuel “N.” The suspect also led protests organized by staff members of the Tijuana Maternal and Child Hospital, where Gabriela worked.

FGE’s investigations revealed that the couple resided together with their two children: a 17-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl. The couple’s relationship was fraught with hostility, underscored by suspicions of extramarital affairs. Gabriela was involved in a prolonged affair, which incited Manuel’s jealousy and distress. Manuel allegedly devised the plan to kill his wife, intending to disguise it as a robbery or random attack.

For over a month, Manuel “N” stayed close to the crime scene, trying to divert suspicion away from himself. He now faces a judge who will evaluate his statements alongside the evidence provided by the FGE.
