The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has successfully legal proceedings against 20 individuals arrested in the Gulf of Santa Clara, Sonora, for alleged involvement with crimes associated with firearm possession and cartridges intended solely for military use. These arrests stemmed from an armed confrontation between organized civilians and the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) officers, resulting in two fatalities. The suspects are believed to be connected to a criminal group known as “PLEBADA DE 7 4”.

Those detained include Carlos Ernesto Gutiérrez Castillo and Daniel Orlando Camargo Yáñez among others. The operation led to the seizure of a significant cache, including 32 long firearms, two Barrett rifles, over 18,000 cartridges, explosive devices, detonators, tactical vests, and vehicles.

Authorities presented robust evidence, prompting a Mexicali judge to impose preventive detention and provide a three-month period for additional investigation. The suspects remain in the Mexicali Social Reinsertion Center during the legal process.
