### Arnulfo Castorena Wins Second Gold Medal for Mexico

Arnulfo Castorena has once again made Mexico proud by winning the gold medal in the 50-meter breaststroke SB2 event at the Paralympic Games in Paris 2024. With an official time of 59.41 seconds, Castorena replicates his success from Tokyo where he won this event as well.

The 46-year-old athlete from Guadalajara, Jalisco continues to demonstrate his prowess in this distance and style. Over the years, he has secured gold medals in Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Tokyo 2020, and now Paris 2024.

“We’ve been training very hard to achieve all this, even when my arm sometimes doesn’t respond as it should, like this time,” Castorena remarked. “All my strength seemed to leave me, but we stayed focused. That wasn’t an excuse to lose the medal. We knew we had to go for it despite the pain and effort, and we succeeded.”

To prepare for these achievements, Castorena had to leave his hometown of Guadalajara and relocate to Mexico City for better training facilities.

“It’s a huge sacrifice, but everything has its reward. Leaving my family, especially my children, is tough. But all these sacrifices are for them, and here is the reward,” he added.

This triumph represents Mexico’s second gold medal at the event, following Gloria Zarza’s victory in the shot put. The Mexican delegation has also won three silver and five bronze medals.
