Get Your Military Service Card

Fulfilling the Military Service Card is crucial for employment and licenses. Young individuals face barriers for neglecting this requirement, affecting career prospects and civic responsibilities.

### Warning About Consequences of Not Processing Military Service Card

**Tijuana** – Despite the apparent lack of interest among younger generations in processing their Military Service Card, David Rubio De La Torre, head of the Municipal Recruitment Board, has emphasized the necessity for young individuals who haven’t fulfilled this requirement to do so as soon as possible. Failing to obtain the card can create significant barriers when seeking employment or obtaining a professional license.

Rubio De La Torre clarified that while the Military Service Card is no longer mandatory for obtaining a Mexican passport, it is still required for several other purposes. These include working for the Federal Government, joining police forces, obtaining a firearm permit, or processing a professional license to practice as a doctor.

He further shared his concern over the increasing number of young people rushing to obtain their Military Service Card after several years, as they face employment denials due to the lack of this document. “In the last three years, I’ve had around three thousand young people demanding their Military Service Card to be processed and released. Daily, around 40 young individuals ask me how to expedite the process because they urgently need it,” he said. Rubio De La Torre emphasized that shortcuts are not possible due to stringent verification processes involving multiple signatures, including his own, the mayor’s, and officials from the Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA).

A ceremony for the non-released Military Service Cards is scheduled for the upcoming 12th of September, with more than 600 young people expected to attend. In November, a lottery will determine who will need to fulfill their military service.

Rubio De La Torre also mentioned that those born in 2006 or who are remiss can approach SEDENA’s facilities. He noted that individuals over 25 no longer need to fulfill military service every Saturday; instead, they will also participate in the lottery.

“The new generations seem to have lost the love for what was once a beautiful tradition of parading; patriotism is fading away,” he concluded.
