The Pacific Airport Group (GAP) has announced a significant investment of 1.6 billion pesos for the modernization of the Mexicali airport, set to take place from 2025 to 2029. This substantial funding aims to enhance various facilities, including expanding the waiting lounge, boarding area, and runway, ultimately allowing the airport to accommodate up to seven simultaneous flights.
According to Víctor García, the director of the Baja California capital airport, the project kicks off in 2025 with an initial investment of 300 million pesos. “This year, we plan to allocate 300 million pesos, the same amount invested in the entire previous five-year period. This shows our commitment to advancing the facility. We will start with building a fire station, and once completed, we will demolish the existing structure to make way for the expansion,” stated García.
He also urged passengers to be mindful of potential disruptions in their travel plans due to ongoing construction activities. Miguel Ángel Torres, president of the Tourism and Conventions Committee of Mexicali, highlighted plans to incorporate solar panels and adopt new technologies to enrich the passenger experience.
