**Fernando Gago Leaves Chivas to Coach Boca Juniors**
Fernando Gago has officially left his position as head coach of Chivas Rayadas del Guadalajara to take up the role at Argentine club Boca Juniors. The announcement comes as Chivas seek an interim manager to see them through to the end of the Apertura 2024 in Liga MX.
Gago joined Chivas ahead of the Clausura 2024 season after stints with other teams including Aldosivi, where his record stood at seven wins, three draws, and 16 losses from 26 matches. He then moved on to Racing Club, leading them to victories in both the Trofeo de Campeones and the Supercopa Intercontinental over a two-year period.
Following a brief two-month period without a team, Gago was announced as Chivas’ head coach to replace Veljko Paunovic. Under Gago’s leadership during the Clausura 2024, the team garnered nine wins, four draws, and four losses, enabling them to advance to the liguilla. They overcame Toluca in the quarter-finals but were eventually defeated by América in the semi-finals.
In the current tournament, Gago aimed to guide the team into the second round again but will now depart mid-season to assume his new role at Boca Juniors. Currently, Chivas sits in the ninth position on the league table with 15 points.
