**The Yucatán International Reading Fair 2025 Kicks Off**
The thirteenth edition of the Yucatán International Reading Fair (FILEY) 2025 commenced on March 22, featuring a visually stunning and practical new layout at the Siglo XXI Convention Center. The prestigious event began with the presentation of the José Emilio Pacheco Excellence in Literature Award to acclaimed author Alberto Ruy Sánchez. Organized by the prestigious University of Yucatán (UADY), FILEY is a significant cultural event in the region.
The José Emilio Pacheco Excellence in Literature Award has been a distinguished honor since 2013, presented annually in association with UC-Mexicanistas, to Mexican writers for their lifetime accomplishments. This year’s award acknowledged Ruy-Sánchez for his profound narrative style that explores new worlds, enriched by the sensuality of North African thought and culture, through his work in novels, essays, and poetry.
The award ceremony attracted over 500 attendees in the Uxmal 1 Convention Hall, including notable personalities such as the UADY Rector, Carlos Alberto Estrada Pinto, and FILEY Director, María Teresa Mézquita Méndez.
The 2025 fair adopts the theme “Time to Read,” offering over 10,000 titles, 130 exhibitors, and more than 700 activities, including presentations, conferences, and literary dialogues.
