## Expansion of US Consulate Staff in Tijuana to Speed Up Visa Processing

**Tijuana** – In an effort to reduce the prolonged wait times for tourist, work, and student visa applications, the US Consulate in Tijuana will be increasing its personnel. This move, announced by the US Consul General in Tijuana, Christopher Teal, aims to significantly streamline the interview process for visa applicants.

**“Currently, post-COVID wait times for a visa application can stretch up to a year […] Within the next few weeks, we will be onboarding more visa consuls at the Tijuana Consulate,”** stated Consul General Teal.

The consulate is currently handling 2,000 appointments daily. The addition of 4 to 6 new officials is expected to bolster the consulate’s capacity, potentially doubling the number of appointments they can handle each day.

**“With the arrival of additional officers, depending on how many we receive, the number of appointments can double. I am hopeful that within a year, we will return to normal waiting periods, possibly reducing them to just a few weeks,”** Teal added confidently.

In special or urgent cases, such as attending a conference or returning to school, the consulate has the ability to reschedule appointments to meet these needs.
