Ensenada Welcomes Robot Rx

Introducing BD Rowa: Ensenada’s revolutionary robotic pharmacy system at Farmacia Suprema. Enhancing safety, inventory control, and delivery in just 10 seconds. Global impact: Robotic systems streamline global pharmacy operations, ensuring accurate dispensing and improving patient safety and workflow efficiency worldwide.

## Robot Medicine Dispenser Arrives in Ensenada

An innovative robotic medication dispensing system known as BD Rowa has commenced operations at Farmacia Suprema in Ensenada, marking a significant technological advancement in the region. This is the first such unit in the city and the seventh in Mexico, with another located in Tijuana. Globally, there are already over 15,000 robots in operation.

The official inauguration took place on Thursday, September 5, at the pharmacy on Boulevard Ramírez Méndez. The ceremony was led by Juan Rivera, General Director of Farmacia Suprema, along with Carlos Brito, Business Manager and Medication Dispensing Supervisor, and Adriana Miramontes, Logistics and Inventory Manager.

The BD Rowa system is poised to revolutionize pharmaceutical technology. Pharmacy staff input prescription details into software, which then instructs the robot to locate, retrieve, and deliver the medication through a dispensing door. This system promises enhanced consumer safety, improved inventory control, and efficient product delivery.

The pharmacies adopting this system can cater to the specific needs of each client. In Ensenada, the robot stands over two meters high and seven meters long, capable of storing up to 10,000 medications. The average delivery time is just 10 seconds.

Developed in Germany but implemented with Mexican talent, the BD Rowa aims to enhance customer service by allowing pharmacy staff to focus on patient interaction rather than manual tasks. One key benefit of the system is its ability to dispense medications based on their expiration dates, ensuring that products are in optimal condition.

To date, no operational errors have been reported. The suppliers mentioned that the system requires maintenance twice a year, and the robot includes a self-cleaning feature, re-organizing the inventory in the process.

### Secondary Article: The Global Impact of Robotic Pharmacy Systems

As the use of robotic pharmacy systems like BD Rowa grows worldwide, their impact on healthcare becomes increasingly significant. These robots, already in operation in various countries, are known for their ability to minimize human error, maintain medication integrity, and streamline pharmacy operations.

In the United States, robotic pharmacy systems have been integrated into several large hospital networks, contributing to improved patient safety and workflow efficiency. According to healthcare professionals, the ability of these systems to manage and track medication inventory in real-time has led to a reduction in medication waste and better cost management.

In Europe, numerous pharmacies and healthcare providers have adopted similar technologies, reporting benefits such as faster service delivery and improved accuracy in medication dispensing. The robotic systems are particularly praised for their role in ensuring that patients receive the correct medications promptly without the risk of human error.

Moreover, these systems are increasingly utilized in community pharmacies, where they help meet the growing demand for medication management services, especially in regions with aging populations. In Japan, where the elderly population is substantial, robotic pharmacy systems are seen as a crucial component in addressing the challenges of medication adherence and management.

The continued advancement and adoption of robotic pharmacy systems are set to transform the pharmaceutical industry, enhancing the overall healthcare experience for patients and providers alike. As evidenced by the new installation in Ensenada, Mexico, the trend towards automation in pharmacies is rapidly gaining momentum, promising a future where medication dispensing is safer, faster, and more efficient.
