**Puerta del Mar Landslide: Civil Protection Evaluates Risks and Costs in Ensenada**
Ensenada’s Municipal Coordination of Civil Protection has initiated a series of evaluations and inspections to determine the risks and financial implications of potential landslides in the Puerta del Mar neighborhood, developed by Fincamex. Residents have expressed concerns about a failing hillside in the area.
Mayor Armando Ayala Robles emphasized that the local administration is working alongside experts and academia to conduct thorough studies in the affected zone. The findings will lead to a technical report specifying necessary actions, which could include relocating affected families and seeking compensation from Fincamex.
“With this report, we can determine Fincamex’s liability as a developer. If found responsible, we will enforce appropriate sanctions and preventive measures while guiding the residents on possible legal actions against the company,” Ayala said.
Last year’s collaborative efforts among municipal, state, and federal agencies alongside neighborhood residents have focused on addressing and mitigating these issues. A recent session on July 31 pushed for an urgent technical and physical inspection of Puerta del Mar to assess the technical risks involved.
Moreover, the Department of Urban Administration, Ecology, and Environment must identify the financial bonds Fincamex will be required to cover if found liable, as stipulated by Article 271 of the Municipality’s building regulations. It’s noteworthy that Puerta del Mar has yet to be officially handed over to the Ensenada municipality.
