Ensenada, B.C. – Closing out March’s focus on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, residents of Ensenada joined forces for a massive cleanup at Playa Hermosa, located at the mouth of El Gallo stream. The impressive effort saw over 900 kilograms of trash collected, highlighting the power of community collaboration in driving significant environmental change.

The initiative was spearheaded by Mayor Claudia Agatón Muñiz and saw participation from around a hundred enthusiastic volunteers. Individuals from various city departments, including Wellness, Education, Youth, Ecology, and Environment, joined forces with crime prevention units and specialized environmental groups such as Zofemat. The activity even gained support from the Navy, the Ensenada Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education (Cicese), local fire services, and councilors Ana Daniela García Salgado and Jorge Eduardo Vega Zamora.

More than just collecting waste, this event underscored the critical importance of safeguarding the environment and water resources. It served as a call to action for residents to pitch in and help create a cleaner, healthier environment for all. Throughout March, three “Water Guardians Fairs” were also held at local primary schools to foster environmental consciousness among young students.
