Over 900 Kilos of Trash Collected in Ensenada Beach Cleanup

Ensenada, B.C. – As March drew to a close, marking Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Month, the community of Ensenada united for a massive beach cleanup at Playa Hermosa, located at the mouth of El Gallo stream. The collective effort resulted in the collection of over 900 kilograms of trash, showcasing the significant impact that can be achieved when a community pulls together.

Under the leadership of Mayor Claudia Agatón Muñiz, approximately one hundred enthusiastic volunteers participated in the cleanup. Volunteers hailed from diverse city sectors, including Wellness, Education, Youth, Ecology, and Environment, in addition to crime prevention and specialized environmental units like Zofemat. Additionally, support came from multiple organizations such as the Navy, the Ensenada Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education (Cicese), local fire services, and councilors Ana Daniela García Salgado and Jorge Eduardo Vega Zamora.

This impactful initiative served as a strong reminder of the crucial role individuals play in safeguarding water and natural resources. It inspired locals to actively engage in environmental conservation and demonstrated how everyone can contribute to a healthier, cleaner community. Moreover, throughout March, the city also organized three “Water Guardians Fairs” at local primary schools, emphasizing the importance of conservation to young students.
