**Primary Article: Around 12% of Emergency Calls Are Due to Vehicle Crashes**
According to information from the Cruz Roja Mexicana (CRM), approximately 12% of emergency calls are related to vehicle crashes. February emerged as the month with the highest number of emergency responses, as highlighted by CRM coordinator Valeria de la Torre. Paramedics handle around 450 services monthly, but in February, the number spiked to approximately 600 calls, well above the usual 450 to 500.
The reason for this increase remains unclear. Incident statistics incorporate various vehicle-related emergencies, including multiple-car accidents, pedestrians being hit by vehicles, and rollovers. However, the primary cause is vehicle collisions, and fortunately, most patients involved are not severely injured. De la Torre mentioned, “Most of these cases do not require hospital transfers and only minimal evaluations are necessary.”
Each emergency response requires two medical technologists onboard: one driving and the other attending to the patient. Sometimes, volunteers or trainees participate, increasing the personnel on an ambulance. The CRM’s Director, Alberto Quintanar, indicated that the proportion of calls due to vehicle accidents is consistent throughout the year. “Accidents occur at any time of the year,” he noted. Emergency services saw a 15% increase so far this year, closing the first half with 25,000 responses.
**Secondary Article: Global Rise in Vehicle Accident-Related Emergency Calls**
Emerging data from around the world indicate a similar trend of high emergency call volumes due to vehicle accidents. In the United States, reports suggest that vehicle crashes account for around 20% of emergency dispatches. Factors such as increased traffic, distracted driving due to mobile phone usage, and adverse weather conditions contribute to these high numbers.
In Europe, countries like Germany and the United Kingdom also report that a significant proportion of emergency calls are for vehicle accidents. The UK’s National Health Service has noted a rise in vehicle-related emergencies, especially in urban areas where traffic congestion is prevalent.
Efforts to reduce these numbers include campaigns against distracted driving, implementing stricter traffic laws, and enhancing road safety features. Emergency services worldwide continue to adapt and improve response times through better training, advanced technology, and increased public awareness. This global issue reflects the need for continued efforts to promote road safety and reduce the incidence of vehicle accidents.
