### TJGringo: FGR Accuses ‘El Chapo’s’ Son of Treason for Kidnapping ‘El Mayo’
**August 15, 2024**
The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) announced on August 15, 2024, that it has formally accused Joaquín Guzmán López, known as “El Güero Moreno” and 38 years old, of treason. Guzmán López, the son of notorious drug lord Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera, commonly known as “El Chapo,” was implicated in the kidnapping of Ismael Mario Zambada García, also known as “El Mayo,” a prominent Sinaloa cartel leader aged 76. The event occurred on July 25, 2024, in Culiacán, Sinaloa, where Zambada was reportedly taken by private aircraft to the ‘Doña Ana’ airport in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, USA.
According to Article 123 of the Federal Penal Code, any Mexican citizen committing treason may face imprisonment from 5 to 40 years. This includes the unlawful restraint of a person within national territory for delivery to foreign authorities or to transport them out of Mexico for such a purpose. The FGR stated that the main evidence is related to the illegal flight and use of a cloned aircraft registration.
The FGR elaborated, “Fundamental evidence for supporting this accusation resides in the United States, connected to the illegal flight with a cloned aircraft registration, and suspicious actions by the plane’s pilot who concealed flight information while in Mexican airspace until reaching the US border.”
A ministry-level investigation and police operations were carried out at the ‘Doña Ana’ airport with US government consent, but critical information necessary to establish accountability was not obtained. Consequently, the FGR has asked the US Department of Justice for the following:
1. Prior authorization from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for the flight.
2. Advanced passenger information (API).
3. Radar security system reports from the US border area.
4. Authentication from immigration authorities regarding the receipt of this flight at Santa Teresa airport.
5. Customs records on the identification and inspection of individuals and their belongings.
6. Pilot identification details.
7. Aircraft registration number and its legality and origin.
8. Aircraft identification.
9. FAA records on the aircraft’s registration and history.
10. Verification of airplane serial numbers and whether irregularities exist.
11. Real aircraft serial number and any alterations of aircraft components.
The FGR has indicated that Mexico’s Foreign Relations Secretariat supports this request, and results will be disclosed once available. The Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) has pinpointed the clandestine airstrip near Culiacán from which the unauthorized flight departed and detailed the aircraft’s illegal entry into the US.
### Secondary Article: US Authorities Respond to Mexico’s Call for Information on High-Profile Kidnapping Case
Following Mexico’s formal request, US authorities have started a review of the flight’s logistics tied to the kidnapping of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada. The Department of Justice confirmed they are assessing Mexico’s documentation needs about the flight and its participants.
Preliminary findings suggest the aircraft used false registration, making it difficult to track its ownership and flight permissions. Additionally, airport security footage and eyewitness accounts are being evaluated to corroborate the timeline provided by Mexican officials.
This cross-border investigation highlights intensified drug cartel operations and cooperative efforts between the US and Mexico to apprehend high-profile criminal figures. The urgency of the case reflects the threat posed by these organizations not only within national territories but also to international security.
US authorities emphasize the importance of maintaining transparent and swift communication channels with Mexico to resolve the legal complexities surrounding such instances of cross-border crime.
