Prepare yourself for the much-anticipated “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament set to take place in Rosarito on March 30th. This event marks the beginning of Baja California’s state fishing competition and promises to draw a large crowd. Last year’s tournament saw nearly 150 participants from Baja California and Southern California converge upon Rosarito’s “Playa El Bebé.”

Organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association and backed by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s administration, this year’s event is hosted by the TJ Fishing Club. Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno will oversee the proceedings. The tournament serves as the first in a series of three beach fishing competitions, providing entrants the opportunity to qualify for the State Championship.

Participants can register starting at 5:00 AM, with the tournament officially beginning at 7:00 AM. A weigh-in will take place at 1:00 PM, ensuring everyone in line by that time can still compete. The day will culminate in a prize ceremony, featuring categories like children’s, women’s, mojarra, among others, alongside raffles and locally-prepared fish dishes.

For those interested in competing, registration details, cost information, rules, and prize specifics can be acquired by contacting the organizers via phone at 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or via email at tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Additional information is also accessible on their website. SEPESCA BC’s Sport Fishing head, Victor Hugo Méndez, has extended financial support to organizers to offset event expenses.

Aspiring competitors can register on the event day or opt to pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria. Following this event, the state competition will continue on April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada and on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, where winners will have the chance to represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship in Jalisco.
