Rosarito is set to host the inaugural round of Baja California’s state fishing competition at “Playa El Bebé” on Sunday, March 30th. The event has become a much-anticipated highlight for anglers from across the region, drawing nearly 150 participants from Baja and Southern California last year.
This fishing tournament is part of the official Baja California sport fishing calendar, organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association with support from SEPESCA BC and the administration of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda. TJ Fishing Club, led by Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno, will spearhead this year’s event.
Participants in this tournament will have the chance to qualify for the State Championship, as it marks the first of three selective beach fishing tournaments. The day’s activities will begin at 5:00 AM with participant registration, followed by the official start of fishing at 7:00 AM. Weigh-ins will conclude at 1:00 PM, accommodating all anglers who are in line by that time.
Prizes will be awarded in various categories, including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other species. Attendees can also enjoy raffles and local seafood dishes. Looking forward, the next two rounds of the state competition are scheduled as follows: April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Successful competitors will earn the opportunity to represent Baja California in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship on September 19-20 at Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
