Prepare for the Upcoming “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament in Rosarito on March 30th
The picturesque Playa El Bebé in Rosarito is set to be the bustling venue for the first round of Baja California’s state fishing competition on Sunday, March 30th. This event is anticipated to bring in a significant number of participants, as it did last year when nearly 150 anglers from across the state and Southern California took part.
This tournament is officially listed on the calendar of SEPESCA BC and receives support from the administration of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda. Organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association, the event is being hosted by TJ Fishing Club, led by Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.
As the first in a series of three selective beach fishing tournaments, competitors aim to qualify for the State Championship. The day begins bright and early at 5:00 AM with registrations, officially kicking off fishing at 7:00 AM. Weigh-ins will close at 1:00 PM, and participants in line by then will still get to compete.
A variety of prizes will be available, accommodating different categories such as children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other species. The event will also feature raffles and an array of local fish-inspired cuisine.

In preparation for the event, Victor Hugo Méndez, head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has extended financial support to the organizers to help with event expenses. Anglers can sign up the day of or pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or the Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.
Looking ahead, the next rounds of the state competition are scheduled for April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Standout competitors from these events will advance to represent Baja California in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship, taking place on September 19-20 at Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
