Mark your calendars for March 30th as Playa El Bebé in Rosarito gears up to host the first round of the Baja California state fishing competition. This event promises an exciting day for both seasoned anglers and fishing enthusiasts, with participation expected from across the state and Southern California. Last year saw nearly 150 anglers join the event, and organizers anticipate a similar turnout this year.

Sponsored by SEPESCA BC and supported by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the tournament is orchestrated by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association. Representing the TJ Fishing Club, Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno will be overseeing the event. This tournament is the first in a series of three beach fishing competitions that will determine qualifiers for the State Championship.

The day will commence at 5:00 AM with registration, followed by the official start of fishing at 7:00 AM. Anglers have until 1:00 PM to weigh in their catches, securing their place in the competition as long as they’re in line by the deadline. Prizes will be awarded in multiple categories, including children’s, women’s, and various fish species. Attendees can also enjoy raffles and local fish delicacies.

For those interested in joining, registration details, costs, rules, and prizes are available via phone at 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or email at tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Additional information can be found on the TJ Fishing Club’s website.

Victor Hugo Méndez, head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has extended financial support to cover some of the event costs. Participants can register on the day of the event or pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking to the future, subsequent rounds of the state competition will take place on April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón, San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Top anglers will have the opportunity to represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship on September 19-20 at Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
