Get ready for a thrilling day at the beach as Rosarito’s Playa El Bebé gears up to host the kickoff event for Baja California’s state fishing competition this Sunday, March 30th. The tournament promises a robust turnout, following last year’s event that attracted nearly 150 participants from across the state and Southern California.

This event is recognized as part of the official calendar by SEPESCA BC, with support from Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s administration. The Baja California Fishing Clubs Association is organizing the event, with TJ Fishing Club taking the lead, represented by Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.

The tournament is the first in a series of three selective beach fishing events intended to qualify contenders for the State Championship. Participants are encouraged to arrive early, as registration opens at 5:00 AM, and the official start is scheduled for 7:00 AM. The weigh-in will conclude at 1:00 PM, extending an opportunity for participants lined up by that time to submit their catches.

Prizes will be up for grabs in various categories such as children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other species, alongside raffles and locally-sourced food. Those interested in taking part can find registration details by contacting 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. More information is available on the TJ Fishing Club website.

Victor Hugo Méndez, who heads Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has provided financial support to the event organizers to help with expenses. Registration is available the day of the event, or anglers can pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking ahead, the following rounds of the competition are scheduled for April 27th at Sunset Beach, Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón, San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Successful anglers from these events may qualify to represent Baja California in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship, taking place on September 19-20 at Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
