Get Ready for the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament in Rosarito This March 30th
Rosarito is set to buzz with excitement as the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament kicks off on March 30th. Scheduled to take place at Rosarito’s Playa El Bebé, this event is the first round of the state fishing competition in Baja California, promising to draw a significant number of fishing enthusiasts from the region and beyond. Last year, it attracted around 150 anglers from various parts of the state and Southern California.
Organized under the supervision of SEPESCA BC and spearheaded by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association, this tournament has the backing of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s administration. This year’s event is hosted by the TJ Fishing Club, with Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno leading the charge.
The tournament will be the first in a series of three beach fishing tournaments, each serving as a qualifying event for the State Championship. The day will begin with registration at 5:00 AM, followed by the start of the fishing competition at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in will conclude at 1:00 PM, with any participants in line by that time still eligible to compete.
Fishing enthusiasts can compete across various categories, including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other species, with prizes awarded accordingly. In addition to the competition, there will be raffles and delicious food prepared from local fish.
For those eager to take part, information on registration, rules, costs, and prizes is available by calling 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Detailed information is also accessible via their official website.
To further support the event, Victor Hugo Méndez, who heads Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has provided financial aid to cover necessary expenses.
Interested participants can either register on the day of the event or pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.
Looking forward, the state competition’s next two rounds will occur on April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, organized by Club Pura Vida, and on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, courtesy of Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Top performers will earn the opportunity to represent Baja California in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship on September 19-20 at Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
