The picturesque Playa El Bebé in Rosarito is set to host the eagerly anticipated “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament this Sunday, March 30th. As the kickoff event for Baja California’s state fishing competition, it’s expected to draw a substantial crowd of fishing enthusiasts from both within the state and Southern California. Last year saw about 150 participants, and organizers are hoping for an even larger turnout this year.

Supported by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s administration, this tournament is part of the official calendar endorsed by SEPESCA BC and is organized by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association. The tournament’s execution is managed by the TJ Fishing Club, with representatives Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno leading this year’s event.

This tournament is the first of three selective beach fishing competitions where participants can qualify for the State Championship. The day’s activities will begin with registration at 5:00 AM, while the fishing officially commences at 7:00 AM. Participants must present their catches by 1:00 PM for them to be included in the competition. The event promises exciting prizes for categories such as children’s, women’s, mojarra, among others, along with raffles and local fish delicacies.

If you wish to participate, registration details including costs and rules can be obtained by contacting 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Additional information is available on the TJ Fishing Club’s website.

In a positive gesture for the event, Victor Hugo Méndez, head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, extended financial support to aid the organization with event expenses. There’s an option for participants to either register on the day or pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or the Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking forward, the state competition will continue with two more rounds set for April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada by Club Pura Vida, and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín courtesy of Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Successful anglers will earn a chance to represent Baja California in the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship on September 19-20 at Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
