Get Ready for the “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament in Rosarito on March 30th
Exciting times are on the horizon for fishing enthusiasts as “Playa El Bebé” in Rosarito prepares to host the opening round of Baja California’s state fishing competition on Sunday, March 30th. This eagerly anticipated event is expected to attract a strong turnout, building on the success of last year’s tournament which drew nearly 150 anglers from across the region, including Southern California.
The competition forms part of the official schedule of SEPESCA BC, with support from Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda. It is organized under the auspices of the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association. This year’s event is being spearheaded by the TJ Fishing Club, represented by Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.
This marks the beginning of a series of three selective beach fishing tournaments that will determine who qualifies for the State Championship. The day will begin early with registration for participants at 5:00 AM, followed by the official start of fishing at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in session will conclude at 1:00 PM, although fishers standing in line by the deadline will still be able to submit their catch.
At the conclusion of the tournament, prizes will be distributed in several categories, including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and others. Participants can also look forward to raffles and savoring some delectable local fish dishes.
Those interested in competing can find information regarding registration, costs, rules, and prizes by calling 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Further details are available on the club’s website.
Victor Hugo Méndez, who heads Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, has provided financial support to the organizers to help cover the event’s expenses.
Prospective participants can register on the day of the event or pre-register at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.
Looking ahead, the next stages of the state competition will be held on April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and on July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Top anglers from these events will earn the opportunity to represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship, which is set to take place on September 19-20 at Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco.
